Inanna's story
My Yoni is a sacred gateway, one that has known both sides of the spectrum of bliss and misery. The profoundness of my journey with my vulva is a long tale; however, a very simple story of an experience I had in the past year of my life seems a fitting one to convey my awe for this Jewel between my legs.
I was at a healing retreat center, in the depths of a lot of personal healing work, surrounded by others doing the same. There was a woman with whom I had instantly made friends based on a knowing that we had shared in the the same river of pain: that of sexual trauma. One hot and sticky afternoon, after quite some time of getting to know one another, we were hanging out in the cabin I was living in at the center. I feel quite comfortable with my nudity, so I was sitting there in the mid day heat with barely a sarong over my shoulder. My friend, who had lived in her body as if it were a prison she loathed, courageously took her first shy steps towards self love by asking me if she could be naked with me. As she found herself baring her body before me we were struck with wonder at how beautiful the other was. And then it came, that question that so many of us are too shy or don't even think to ask; she wanted to look at my Yoni, and what's more, she wanted me to look at hers.
In this incredible sharing of the most hidden and sacred part of our bodies, I was part of an incredible healing. For the first time in her life, my friend was looking at a Vulva without repulsion and disgust but with a loving curiosity. The simple witnessing and praise of her Yoni enabled her for the first time in her life to look upon her own body not with repulsion and disgust, but with love.
This experience was so simple yet profoundly moving for me. Through my Yoni I felt I had channeled something ancient and exquisite, truly untouchable by the perversion of humanity: the dark mysterious cavern of the Vagina holds the secrets of Her creation; the Vulva, in all its forms, is the sacred and beautiful gateway into the cosmic mystery. When we look upon It with awe, we feel that spark of magic which is the origin of our creation. I can not encourage strongly enough that each woman be bold and loving and curious with your sisters. If that experience seems miles away for you, then it is my honor for you to look upon my sacred Yoni.
